What is a sauté pan?

A sauté pan is a versatile pan with high, straight edges and a large, flat bottom. It is designed to give you precise control over cooking, whether you're sautéing vegetables, braising meat or preparing sauces. The high edges make it easy to stir without spilling, and the spacious size is perfect for dishes that require space, such as pasta dishes.

What can you use a sauté pan for?

With a sauté pan you can cook everything from creamy risottos and juicy meat dishes to delicious pan sauces and deep-fried delicacies. The even heat distribution makes it ideal for simmering dishes, while the high edges make it easy to handle dishes with sauce or liquid.

Can be used on all heat sources

The 5-ply sauté pan is compatible with all heat sources, including induction, gas and ceramic hobs. The pan can also easily be used in the oven, up to 430 degrees, making it perfect for dishes that need to be cooked in the oven.

Benefits of the sauté pan with lid

A lid for your sauté pan allows you to retain moisture and heat, which is essential for dishes like braising and simmering. The lid also helps reduce cooking time and preserves the flavour of your ingredients. If you're using the sauté pan in the oven, it's also ideal to use the lid when the surface doesn't need direct heat.

Maintenance of the sauté pan

Clean the sauté pan with warm water and mild soap. If the food burns, you can clean the pan with warm water mixed with vinegar. The sauté pan is also dishwasher-safe - it's normal for limescale or rainbow stains to appear on stainless steel cookware, but this can easily be removed with vinegar.

Saute pan vs. frying pan: What's the difference?

While a frying pan has low, bevelled edges that make it ideal for frying tasks, a sauté pan has high, straight edges that prevent spills and make it perfect for dishes with liquid or sauce. The advantage of a sauté pan is that you can fry and then add the liquid - perfect for a bolognese, for example, where the meat needs to be browned before adding the tomato and stock. Both frying pans and sauté pans have their place in the kitchen, but the sauté pan is indispensable for larger tasks.
