A good stainless steel pot is a workhorse in the kitchen that will serve you for many years to come. Here are the most important tips for keeping your pots in top condition for life - and looking good.

Tip 1: Avoid Adding Salt Right Away
If you add salt to your pot (e.g. salt in boiling water) right away, you risk pitting corrosion on the surface. This means small holes in the steel surface.
While this doesn't really affect the function of your pot, once the damage is done you can't do anything about it - and the problem can easily be prevented. Simply wait until the contents of the pan or pot are hot before adding salt.
Tip 2: Dry Immediately
Stainless steel pots can handle most things - they're stainless steel after all, so water won't harm them. But if you want to avoid spots and mineral deposits from water (when it evaporates), you should dry immediately with a cloth - and avoid the dishwasher.
Otherwise you'll typically experience limescale buildup - especially if you live in an area with a lot of limescale in your water.

Tip 3: Let the Pot Cool Down
You may already know that pans can warp if exposed to drastic temperature changes - but this actually also applies to pots. The same applies to our Carbon Steel pans and Cast Iron.
Therefore, you should never use cold water in a hot pot. Let the pot cool down a bit first, and preferably use warm water for cleaning.
